The (Long) Story

I am Jason Royes, the creator of InputZero. InputZero is decidedly not a consulting firm, it serves a different need. It is not a company at all, just a website.

Some time ago I began pondering what an ideal application security consultancy would look like based on my own preferences. It would only hire great consultants based on their merit. It would pay those consultants the bulk of revenues: an 80/20 or 90/10 split. There would be Zero overhead. Consultants would have the autonomy to choose their projects and would be provided with a fat budget for tools and hardware.

Whatever proceeds made by the company would be reinvested to enhance the quality of tools, practices, deliverables and services. Things like a centralized deliverable management system or a great testing proxy.

Needless to say, there are several reasons why companies are not structured this way and I am not inferring that one structure is necessarily better than another. However, after all this musing, it struck me that there were lots of consultants like myself who would probably enjoy a company structured in this way. I also began to realize that I was not describing a company in the usual sense. Consultants would be approximately independent.

I have personal relationships with many great security consultants that enjoy the freedom afforded by freelancing. I know several consultants that would love to consult independently, but are too worried about the financial risks involved to take action. There are also several great organizations that need security services, but either prefer working with a trusted consultant or don't need a heavyweight consulting shop.

And so, a logical progression lead me to create this website. My hope is that it will evolve into a vibrant marketplace for security services that is convenient both for project owners and consultants.
